October, 2018
Here's an October update...
Peanuts
: I've had a few parents contact me before sending treats to school asking about peanuts. We have no peanut allergies in 3H, so sending treats with peanuts or lunches with peanut butter will be just fine!
Scholastic Book orders:
Thanks to those of you who have ordered already. Our class gets free books for our class library when you order. If you'd like, you can place orders on-line instead of sending the order back to me. If you go to scholastic.ca/canadaclubs , you can follow the prompts and create an account. Please enter your choices by the class order deadline each month, so they will be included with our class order.
Home Reading Challenge-
We will be starting our home reading program next week. I would like students to be reading a minimum of 15 minutes/night. Please record the number of minutes and initial on the calendar page of the agenda. I will be recording the results weekly. We have challenged our neighbours, 3W, to see which class can get the most reading minutes per month. Read, Read, Read!
Spelling-
We will start a weekly spelling program after Thanksgiving, so keep a watch out for weekly words.
Halloween-
We will be enjoying Halloween activities on October 31. As you are preparing costumes, please be mindful that we have some very young students in the school, and we do not want to scare anyone. Weapons as accessories will not be allowed at school.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks for your support,
September, 2018
I am looking forward to a fantastic year in Grade 3! Here is some information about our day-to day lives that you may find useful:
3H Teachers-
I will be teaching all subjects to the 3H class, except for the following:
Mr. Roger Magnus will be teaching Phys Ed to the students twice a week, and Mrs. Caelie Landry will be teaching Art.
Agendas
- the agendas have not yet arrived at the school, but when they do....
Each student will be responsible for using his/her agenda daily. All homework assignments/messages are to be written down by the students. I will be checking the agendas every day before the students leave to make sure that everything has been recorded and initial the agenda. Please check the agendas so you can be aware of what your child is working on for their classes. If we find that homework assignments are not being completed, I may ask you for an initial as well, to encourage students to stay on top of their work. Students are expected to have all required materials with them to complete assignments. The homework will also be posted on the homework page of this website.

We will be visiting the school library each week on Thursdays. Students will have the opportunity to borrow two books at a time, provided they are returned on time. If books have not been returned, no new books may be signed out.
Scholastic Book Orders-
Book orders will be sent home on a monthly basis. Ordering the books is completely optional. The book club offers very good deals, and our class benefits by getting free books from the orders. When ordering,
please do not send cash. Only cheques made out in the proper amount to "Scholastic Canada Inc." will be accepted.
Home Reading

Like anything else, s
tudents become better readers with practice. Students are expected to read a minimum of 20 minutes per night. Forms will be sent home with the students for parents to initial to track the number of minutes read. Watch for these forms to come home soon!

we do not have a microwave in class, nor will we be getting one. Students are encouraged to bring lunches that can be eaten cold, or to bring a thermos if something needs to be hot. Hot water will be available, if students would like to use that.
