ASSESSMENT
We use formative assessment to evaluate what children are learning on a day-to-day basis. From this, I will be able to tell at what level students are understanding what they have been learning. Daily assignments, homework and quizzes will fall into this category. This will give us the opportunity to work on any problems areas and to keep doing all the great things we already do. These types of assignments will be graded on the following scale:
E- Excellent
A- Acceptable
N- Needs Improvement
Summative assessment is used after a concept, skill or process has been taught and practiced. These assessments are what makes up the students' grades. These will consist of tests, unit exams and projects and are graded on a 1-5 scale.
These assignments will be assigned the following grades:
5 - student has demonstrated an excellent performance and has a complete understanding of the learner outcomes
4 - student demonstrates a consistent performance which indicates a proficient understanding of the learner outcomes
3 - student demonstrates an acceptable performance which indicates a partial understanding of the learner outcomes
2 - student demonstrates a developing understanding with inconsistencies in understanding the learner outcomes
1 - student is experiencing difficulty meeting the learner outcomes
Not all summative assignments cover the same number of outcomes, so some may be "weighted" more heavily than others when calculating the final grade.
